SC811 is more than South Carolina’s centralized one call center that notifies member underground facility owners of a planned dig. SC811 is a state-wide family committed to the safety of our community and damage prevention to underground facilities for South Carolina.

Formed and funded by statewide member companies as a result of the 1978 Underground Utility Damage Prevention Act, SC811, a not for profit company, has been working hard for damage prevention and safety for more than 30 years. SC811 currently has a 21-seat board of directors representing member utility companies from across South Carolina. SC811 has a full staff of 32 qualified employees including the Executive Director, Patsy Sharpe.

SC811 mission statement: To provide excellence in damage prevention notification service to our members, excavators and the public.

Through trained customer service representatives and a statewide GIS mapping system, SC811 is working hard for the protection of underground facilities and the safety of the public.

Anyone proposing to excavate, dig, bore, tunnel, blast, or disturb the earth in any manner in which buried facilities may be damaged is required to call SC811 at 811 or (888) 721-7877) between the hours of 7:30 am (EST) and 5:30 pm (EST), Monday through Friday, allowing 3 working days (72 hours) before starting the proposed work.
