Locate Requests will be processed for the 72 Hour Notice by which South Carolina State Law Requires at the time the ticket has been processed by a PUPS Staff Person.
The South Carolina State Law states that excavators are to give a 72 hour notice, (3 working days), excluding weekends and holidays, for the locators to mark the area. You will receive an electronic mail message stating when you are legally free to proceed with the digging work and what member utilities PUPS will be notifying for you in that area. Any utilities PUPS does not notify, you will be responsible for contacting them directly. From the SC State Law: Section 58-35-80: For the purposes of this section the approximate location of underground utilities is defined as a "strip of land at least five feet wide, but not wider than the width of the utility plus two and one-half feet on either side of the utility." Once PUPS has processed the request; the locate will be good for 15 working days from the date of the 72 hour notice.
